The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in utilizing replay technology.
Replay technology will make its debut at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Competitors will gain the ability to contest particular rulings from the official, mirroring the practice already in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
The new system is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This development follows just a year after the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which terminated the 147-year tradition of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the official to re-examine specific situations, such as:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or person during play.
- Potential interference end of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a competitor can request.
Practical Application
A recent case occurred in Indian Wells recently, where a top player used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined the player was responsible for interference, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
This technology are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon this year involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This solves instances where the crowd have sometimes been uncertain whether a shot was in or out.
In other news, with exactly 100 days to go until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
