Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior representative commented the incident rendered him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
